250 ml Separatory Funnels have several applications in separating immiscible liquids
- Separatory Funnel is designed for separating two or more liquids
- Separating two immiscible liquids by draining each in sequence into separate containers
- Solvent extraction of one or more ions from a liquid (usually aqueous) using an extraction solvent followed by separation of the two liquids
- Concentrating of one salt or ion by repeated contact with a more dilute solution
- Often used as a coalescing process where the two liquids can then be easily separated by draining first one and then the second liquid
Note: Glass stopcock separatory funnels require fitting grease to create a tight seal. Remove the key stopcock, apply a thin coating of grease to the stopcock, reassemble and then adjust the tightness ensuring a firm seal.
